Some history...

Since the creation in 1957, the database was developed with a double organization: the compilation of data sheets, and a complete bibliographic research. It worths mentioning the start of the operation 'Piemonte sotterraneo' and the almost simultaneous publication of 'Speleologia del Piemonte - Bibliografia analitica parte prima', with the bibliography updated to 1960. Later a new data sheet was adopted to align to the one promoted by the SSI at the beginning of the 70s. The bibliography was well-organized and two updates were performed (to 1977 and to 1997). In 1993 the 'Progetto catasto' allowed a complete access to the computerized bibliography.
In 2019 a revolution of the database was due to the creation of the website. Its main purpose was to make the data update operations easier, including also caves and artificial cavities with non-published data of the speleological groups' archives. The portal also allows the single speleologists to access freely to the cartography and the cavities data. Moreover, the databases of caves and artificial cavities are now on the same website, integrated with fauna and bibliographical data, being the perfect tool for further speleological research.
